1. PREGNANCY CRAVINGS – GASTRONOMY

Kanougas at Maison Pariès
Kanougas at Maison Pariès

Save the wine tasting courses for next year and indulge in the many culinary treats in Saint Jean de Luz.

Try Basque Cake and Mouchous at Maison Pariès (9, rue Gambetta,Saint-Jean-De-Luz)
Mouchous = mall, light and soft macaroons. Made with lots of almonds and very little sugar, enveloped in a thin and crunchy outer layer, and prepared in twos, with one on top of the other.

tip : make sure to ask if the macaroons contain uncooked eggs, if so, they are not suitable for pregnant women

Try Kanouga, another specialty produced by Maison Pariès. This special treat was invented around 1914. This soft black chocolate (or coffee) caramel can also be made with walnuts or hazelnuts.

Pâtisserie ADAM (6 rue de la République, Saint-Jean-de-Luz)

In 1660, Monsieur ADAM created the subtle and delicious masterpiece we now know as the macaroon, made from a mixture of almond paste, sugar, ground almonds and egg whites.

During the wedding of Louis XIV to the Infanta of Spain, Monsieur Adam made some of his confections for the new king. Louis found the macaroons delightful, and his approval guaranteed that these delicacies became extremely popular with the Court. The Pâtisserie ADAM still exists in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, with the secrets of its recipe passed down from father to son.

Saint-Jean-de-Luz is known for its long beach of fine sand protected from the ocean by three impressive sea walls. The delightful beach is perfect for swimming. Saint-Jean-de-Luz also boasts other wilder beaches ideal for activities such as surfing.

The beach, located right in the heart of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, is protected from the waves by three sea walls, and as such is the perfect beach for children. The Grande Plage is home to four beach clubs as well as outlets renting tents, parasols and sun-loungers :

Les Dauphins, Neptune, Les Trois Couronnes and the new to open Le Petit Chipi Club, a beach summer club dedicated to children age 3 to 16 years old.

Travel note from BabyMoon® Travel’s creator and founder Ilonka Molijn

I’ve spend one blissful summer at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort and Spa. After spending more than 10 hours in a plane from Amsterdam to LAX we could not have made a better start of our holiday than to stay at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort and Spa. My most fond memories are of the extremely blue sky, the refreshing swimming pools, the variety of restaurants and the relaxed atmosphere of the resort. Further we will never forget our ocean view room which was royally sized, beautifully decorated and a delight to wake up every morning to watch the ocean. Our children can still remember making s’mores around the fire pit. A custom that we did not see in Europe before but now is a precious family memory for us.

I also enjoyed many blissful moments at Hyatt’s Spa, Pacific Waters Spa. This 20,000 square foot oasis also created the Mother to Be Massage, a prenatal massage to nurture and support pregnant women.

The short distances to attractions such as Knott’s Berry Farm, Legoland California Resort and Disneyland® Resort were also a big plus for our stay in Huntington Beach.

If you are looking for a sunny Southern California destination for your babymoon, then the Hyatt Huntington Beach Resort & Spa will be your favorite destination too.  Huntington Beach enjoys an ideal climate, with sunny days and cool nights. No extreme heat, cold or rainfall which makes it an ideal destination for your beach babymoon.

5.  VISIT MUSEUMS

The International Surfing Museum (411 Olive Avenue) is a must for surf buffs thanks to such sacred relics as a surfboard used by Duke Kahanamoku. Or a cornerstone from the 1914 Huntington Beach Pier, a guitar owned by surf instrumental king Dick Dale, and the Rolex camera used by Bruce Brown to film The Endless Summer. After a recent renovation, the International Surfing Museum is again open to the public with improved exhibits, technology and a new Welcome Center.

Close by, in Long Beach, sea lovers might also love the Aquarium of the Pacific

Experience the wonder of one of the world’s largest aquariums. This expansive venue is home to more than 12,500 creatures, representing the three areas of the Pacific – sunny Southern California and Baja, the frigid waters of the North Pacific, and the colorful reefs of the Tropical Pacific.  Come face to face with over 500 species, including 150 sharks (some you can touch, some you can’t) sea horses, sea lions, moray eels, moon jellies, even tropical birds in the Lorikeet Forest.

Especially during Spring time, look for signs of the penguin breeding season.

4. Shopping for Mom & Baby on Capri

CAPRI SANDALS : A pair of sandals, hand-stitched in Capri

Capri is famous for its handmade sandals. To get a pair of your own, all you have to do is walk into a sandal shop, where the cobbler will measure your feet while you choose the type of straps you want, and, less than an hour later, your sandals will be ready! Jackie Kennedy was such a fan of Capri’s sandals that she once had her favorite shop open exclusively for her and spent the whole night trying out the various models.

BABY CLOTHING BOUTIQUE TIP : Girotondo, Via Longano 6, Capri. Baby and Children brands such as Paz Rodríguez, Lili Gaufrette and Monnalisa.

The Piazzetta = The Little Square. As small as it is, it is the center of island social life, deserving of the nickname “the world’s living room”. It has always been the heart of Capri society, but at one time, it was simply the square where the fish market was held.

TIPS / NEED TO KNOW

  • Check if medicines legal in your country are legal in Dubai too before travelling with them (check DubaiCustoms.ae) Many medicines that are prescribed in Western countries and even sold over the counter are considered to be controlled substances in the UAE and must be accompanied by a prescription. Among them are cough and cold remedies for children.
  • Unmarried and Pregnant in Dubai? Unexpectedly giving birth in the UAE thus giving birth out of wedlock can cause problems in the hospital. Source: Gov.uk

Dubai BabymoonsDue to the laws on sex outside marriage, if you become pregnant outside marriage, both you and your partner could face imprisonment and/or deportation. Doctors may ask for proof of marriage during ante-natal checks. An unmarried woman who gives birth in the UAE may also encounter problems when registering the birth of the child in the UAE and could be arrested, imprisoned or deported. To get a birth certificate from the UAE authorities, you must provide a marriage certificate and the authorities may compare the date of the marriage against the estimated date of conception. The UAE is in many respects a tolerant society and private life is respected, although there have been some reports of individuals being punished for sexual activity outside marriage, including homosexual activity, particularly where there is any public element, or the behaviour has caused offence. This applies both to expatriate residents and to tourists.

  • Parco Savello, on your way to Aventine Hill. How to say I am pregnant in Amsterdam

With its picturesque canal network, rich history, and vibrant cultural scene, the capital of the Netherlands is one of the world’s most unique city destinations.

Amsterdam, a city with more than 800,000 bicycles, the Venice of the North is the ultimate destination for your once-in-a-lifetime babymoon.
