Travel note from BabyMoon® Travel’s creator and founder Ilonka Molijn

I’ve spend one blissful summer at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort and Spa. After spending more than 10 hours in a plane from Amsterdam to LAX we could not have made a better start of our holiday than to stay at the Hyatt Regency Huntington Beach Resort and Spa. My most fond memories are of the extremely blue sky, the refreshing swimming pools, the variety of restaurants and the relaxed atmosphere of the resort. Further we will never forget our ocean view room which was royally sized, beautifully decorated and a delight to wake up every morning to watch the ocean. Our children can still remember making s’mores around the fire pit. A custom that we did not see in Europe before but now is a precious family memory for us.

I also enjoyed many blissful moments at Hyatt’s Spa, Pacific Waters Spa. This 20,000 square foot oasis also created the Mother to Be Massage, a prenatal massage to nurture and support pregnant women.

The short distances to attractions such as Knott’s Berry Farm, Legoland California Resort and Disneyland® Resort were also a big plus for our stay in Huntington Beach.

If you are looking for a sunny Southern California destination for your babymoon, then the Hyatt Huntington Beach Resort & Spa will be your favorite destination too.  Huntington Beach enjoys an ideal climate, with sunny days and cool nights. No extreme heat, cold or rainfall which makes it an ideal destination for your beach babymoon.

5.  VISIT MUSEUMS

The International Surfing Museum (411 Olive Avenue) is a must for surf buffs thanks to such sacred relics as a surfboard used by Duke Kahanamoku. Or a cornerstone from the 1914 Huntington Beach Pier, a guitar owned by surf instrumental king Dick Dale, and the Rolex camera used by Bruce Brown to film The Endless Summer. After a recent renovation, the International Surfing Museum is again open to the public with improved exhibits, technology and a new Welcome Center.

Close by, in Long Beach, sea lovers might also love the Aquarium of the Pacific

Experience the wonder of one of the world’s largest aquariums. This expansive venue is home to more than 12,500 creatures, representing the three areas of the Pacific – sunny Southern California and Baja, the frigid waters of the North Pacific, and the colorful reefs of the Tropical Pacific.  Come face to face with over 500 species, including 150 sharks (some you can touch, some you can’t) sea horses, sea lions, moray eels, moon jellies, even tropical birds in the Lorikeet Forest.

Especially during Spring time, look for signs of the penguin breeding season.

Babymoons and the Zika Virus

Pregnant Travelers: be advised to read our  Q&A Section BabyMoon® Travel Q&A Section.

The safety of you and your baby always comes first. Therefore avoid travelling to areas where malaria and yellow fever occurs (yellow fever – Central South America and parts of equatorial Africa).

UPDATE: JANUARY 25 2017

I am pregnant. How will Zika virus affect me or my unborn baby?

CDC has issued a travel alert (Level 2-Practice Enhanced Precautions) for people travelling to regions and certain countries where Zika virus transmission is ongoing:

Pregnant women should not travel to areas with active Zika virus transmission. See the Travelers’ Health Zika website for international travel guidance, and check the US Maps page for details on active Zika virus transmission in the United States.

This alert follows reports in Brazil of microcephaly and other poor pregnancy outcomes in babies of mothers who were infected with Zika virus while pregnant. However, additional studies are needed to further characterize this relationship. More studies are planned to learn more about the risks of Zika virus infection during pregnancy.

Until more is known, and out of an abundance of caution, CDC recommends special precautions for pregnant women and women trying to become pregnant:

  • Pregnant women in any trimester should consider postponing travel to the areas where Zika virus transmission is ongoing. Pregnant women who do travel to one of these areas should talk to their doctor or other healthcare providers first and strictly follow steps to avoid mosquito bites during the trip.
  • Women trying to become pregnant who are thinking about becoming pregnant should consult with their healthcare provider before travelling to these areas and strictly follow steps to prevent mosquito bites during the trip.

Because specific areas where Zika virus transmission is ongoing are difficult to determine and likely to change over time, CDC will update this travel notice as information becomes available. Check the CDC travel website frequently for the most up-to-date recommendations.

4. Shopping for Mom & Baby on Capri

CAPRI SANDALS : A pair of sandals, hand-stitched in Capri

Capri is famous for its handmade sandals. To get a pair of your own, all you have to do is walk into a sandal shop, where the cobbler will measure your feet while you choose the type of straps you want, and, less than an hour later, your sandals will be ready! Jackie Kennedy was such a fan of Capri’s sandals that she once had her favorite shop open exclusively for her and spent the whole night trying out the various models.

BABY CLOTHING BOUTIQUE TIP : Girotondo, Via Longano 6, Capri. Baby and Children brands such as Paz Rodríguez, Lili Gaufrette and Monnalisa.

The Piazzetta = The Little Square. As small as it is, it is the center of island social life, deserving of the nickname “the world’s living room”. It has always been the heart of Capri society, but at one time, it was simply the square where the fish market was held.

BabyMoon® Travel’s creator Ilonka Molijn spend a few nights at the Fairmont Monte Carlo in August 2015.

We stayed in the Deluxe Garden View Room which is modern and extremely royal sized. Even with our family of four, 2 adults & 2 kids, the room has lots of space left, which gave it a rich feeling. The bed was also royal-sized and blissfully soft.

We enjoyed pre-dinner drinks at Horizon Deck, Restaurant & Champagne Bar, while overlooking the sea. You can not wish for better views !

Then we had a delicious seaside dinner at Saphir 24, the beating heart of the hotel. To top it off, there happened to be a Fireworks Competition that night and we were treated to an amazing fireworks show.

We left Monte Carlo while driving over the Formula 1 Grand Prix Circuit, looking back to an extraordinary stay in the majestic and romantic Monte Carlo.

5. Enjoy the scenery

Santa Barbara’s natural landscapes are filled with extravagant, wild beauty. Go for a walk along the palm-lined Cabrillo Boulevard and take in the sweeping views between the Pacific Ocean and majestic Santa Ynez Mountains. Or choose visiting Shoreline Park, which also boasts wonderful views of the ocean, the mountains and the islands and most importantly, it has lots of park benches for resting!

Built in the 1920s by famed architect Myron Hunt, La Arcada Court is a charming, stroll-able outdoor shopping plaza with tile-lined pathways. In true Santa Barbara style, La Arcada boasts sidewalk cafés, boutiques, a classic barber shop and whimsical sculptures – all within a beautiful Spanish paseo. Kids (and the young at heart) should head straight to the courtyard fountain, for a close-up view of turtles.
